When the pollen starts to cover our docks and waters, we know what time of year it is: spring! Despite a few chilly days, spring officially sprung on Lake Martin in March. As a result, we’ve been gearing-up for all of the amazing spring festivals, activities, and events that will be happening soon. Area lake dwellers will be able to enjoy music, art, and more this season. As you start to pencil in dates on your calendar, consider writing down these wonderful Lake Martin events, and be sure to let us know what you’re attending. Old 280 Boogie, Waverly, April 21
Music, art, and a good time? Sign us up! The 18th annual Old 280 Boogie is just a few short days away. This multicultural music and arts festival in Waverly is always one of the hits of the season. The show takes place on the grounds at the Standard Deluxe, a graphic design, print shop, and music venue. In fact, the business claims its the one lone establishment in Waverly, but we know that there is at least one other option in the town. This year’s Old 280 Boogie includes a line-up featuring Shinyribs, Rev. Sekou, Revel In Dimes, and more. Tickets are on-sale now and are available online.
Derby Day at the Stables, Alexander City, May 5
Join your fellow Lake Martin neighbors for a day at the races as the finest horses in the world make a run for the roses. The 144th annual Kentucky Derby takes place on May 5, and The Stables at Russell Crossroads is planning an epic soiree. Attendees will find mint juleps, small bites, live music, and even betting. There will also be prizes awarded for best hat and the most dapper gentleman. Plus, all of the fun benefits Children’s Harbor, one of our favorite local charities. Plan to attend Derby Day at the Stables on Saturday, May 5th!
Art on the Lake at Children’s Harbor, Alexander City, May 26
Speaking of Children’s Harbor, Art on the Lake is just around the corner. Over 60 artists and vendors will be onsite to offer arts, crafts, foodstuffs, and more. With crowds of up to 5,000 people, there is definitely something for everyone at this annual Lake Martin festival. Kids will enjoy their very own Kid Zone while parents can take in a music with a drink in hand from the cocktail bar. Art on the Lake is also pet friendly! Grab fido and the rest of the family, and head to Children’s Harbor for the day.
Lil’ Calypso Art Festl, Dadeville, June 9
Chuck’s Marina is one of our favorite spots for grabbing a bite to eat, but we also love attending the Lil’ Calypso Art Fest. Back for its 16th year, the festival features over 60 regional artists in multiple categories. Enthusiasts will find jewelry, pottery, metalwork, furniture, body products, and artwork all on Lake Martin’s shores. There will also be live music beginning at noon. Be sure to attend this annual Lake Martin event!
