Memorial Day marks the unofficial start to summer (the first day of summer is June 21), and summer on Lake Martin is most definitely our favorite time of year. Besides being able to jump in the water at any given moment, summertime on Lake Martin offers concerts, festivals, and more. You can almost always find us dipping our toes in the lake, riding boats into the sunset, or swaying back and forth at a concert. Will we see you at these area events? RXR Fest, May 26 – 28: Summer on Lake Martin is full of fun on the water and must-see concerts. Kick-off your Memorial Day weekend with RXR Fest. Grab the family, your neighbors, friends, and even your pup and join your fellow Lake Martin residents on the Town Green at Russell Crossroads for FREE music. The festival features talent like Airside, the Bank Walkers, and Jordy Searcy. RXR Fest runs from Friday to Sunday. Find the full line-up here.
Discover the Stars, June 3: Join your fellow Lake Martin neighbors at Russell Crossroads for a night of stargazing. A team from the Columbus State University Space and Science Center will have telescopes on the lawn at The Discovery Center. Plus, you’ll be treated to a meal at SpringHouse. Tickets are $50 per person and space is limited.
Alex City Jazz Fest, June 9-10: Back for it’s 27th year, the Alex City Jazz Festival is sure to be spectacular. The festival will feature artists the likes of The Sofia Goodman Group, Randall Bramblett, and Delta Rae. The event is, and always has been free for all attendees. Lil’ Calypso Art Fest, June 10: Head to Chuck’s on June 10th for an art festival like no other. WIth live music on the deck from Troi Atkinson and tons of local artists, you’re sure to have a fantastic day. Vendors will have everything from cedar benches to metal pieces and paintings. Water Ski Tournament, June 16: If you’re hungry for a little competition this summer, look no further than the 2017 Lake Martin Slalom Clinic and Water Ski Tournament. The weekend kicks off with a slalom clinic held by U.S. Senior World Team Member and Alabama State Record Holder, Bob Schouten, State Champion and Nationally Ranked Competitor, Payton Phillips, and Kate White the 2016 Girls 2 State Champion. Then, competitors take to the water at noon on Saturday for a tournament complete with awards.
Arti Gras, July 1-2: Don’t miss your chance to shop from local artisans at the sixth annual Arti Gras at Russell Crossroads. Makers will have loads of goods on hand including jewelry, paintings, pottery, furniture and more. Find a special memento for you or someone you love from this two-day event.
4th of July Boat Parade, July 4: Boat enthusiasts, grab your star-spangled decor, your family, and turn your boat into a July 4th float (no pun intended). A long-time Lake Martin tradition, boats will parade from Kowaliga to Children’s Harbor, and prizes will be awarded in a range of categories for the best dressed boats. The best overall will receive $500 in cash! All participants must be registered, so stop by your local marina to participate.
4th of July Blast, July 4: Fourth of July is a huge event on Lake Martin, so be sure your night ends with a bang! Head to The Amp for an unforgettable evening of concerts and fireworks. Grab your spot on the grass or in a boat and watch as Russell Lands lights up the sky for their 17th year of the largest fireworks show on Lake Martin. You won’t want to miss it!
