How to Make July 4th THE BEST holiday on Lake Martin
The Fourth of July is hands-down the best holiday on Lake Martin. We’re patriotic in these parts, and the small towns dotted along the lake’s shores pull out all the stops for celebrating our nation. There is live music. There are fireworks. There are parades. There are so many fantastic ways to spend the fourth in and around Lake Martin’s waters that we’re giddy to share them with you. Today’s post is all about why you simply cannot miss the 4th on the lake and how you can take part in the action.
Start your weekend with pancakes. Lots of pancakes. What’s more American than an a huge pancake breakfast with your neighbors? The Russell Crossroads Community Garden Club is hosts their pancake breakfast every year, and this year’s breakfast is the weekend of the fourth, Saturday July 1 to be exact. Piping hot pancakes dripping with butter and slathered with syrup? We can’t think of a better way to kick off the festivities.
Decorate your boat for the Boat Parade. This long-time Lake Martin tradition is one that kids and kids at heart get excited about every year: the boat parade! Watch the festivities as loads of boats decorated in their red, white, and blue best parade from Kowaliga to Children’s Harbor. Prizes will be awarded in different categories and trust us when we say captains and their crew take their decor very seriously. There is still time to participate, too! Call Kowaliga Marina or stop by any marina to register.
Tie your boats together at Chimney Rock and spend the day in the water. A well-known central location to meet friends, Chimney Rock is the place to be on the Fourth of July. On our nation’s birthday, you’ll find hoards of boats tied together while friends and bounce from one boat to the next. Those with guts looking for some Fourth of July glory might even take a jump or two from one of the many colorful rocks on the banks. Whether you choose to lounge in the water to take a leap of faith from the rocks, Chimney Rock is a fun place to spend the day.
Gather your friends for a concert and have a blast at the fireworks at the Amp. For seventeen years, the Amp has hosted the South’s largest fireworks show over Lake Martin. Needless to say, it’s not to be missed. Pack a blanket and a picnic, find your spot on the lush grass and enjoy live music before the fireworks begin at 9. Don’t want to leave after the booming display? No problem. Stay for The Sweet Tea Trio at 9:30 and end your night with a bang.
The Lake Martin Team agrees that there’s nothing better than celebrating the Fourth of July with friends and family on Lake Martin. Allison says, “It is awesome to see so many people on Lake Martin enjoying one of the greatest American holidays together as a community.” And Rhonda agrees, “One of my favorite times every year is the 4th of July on Lake Martin. It is a time to celebrate with family and friends while enjoying the fun-filled festivities taking place on Lake Martin.” God bless the U.S.A!
