5 Fabulous Fall Activities around Lake Martin
Fall is a wonderful time of year at Lake Martin. Besides witnessing gorgeous fall foliage around the lake, there are tons of family-friendly fall activities for kids of all ages. We’ve rounded-up our favorite fall activities on and around the lake. While some of these require a bit of a drive, we promise the fun you’ll have is well-worth a short time in the car. What’s better than a pumpkin patch? A pumpkin patch full of activities for kids of all ages. At Jack O Lantern Lane in LaFayette, families will find wagon rides, homemade ice cream, a petting zoo, face painting, train rides, and of course, you pick pumpkins. Hours are Fridays, 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Sundays 12:00 p.m – 6 p.m. Be sure to take advantage of all of the photo opportunities, too. Memories at Jack O Lantern Lane are ones that will last a lifetime.
The Alabama Cotton Festival happens October 14th and is a highlight of the fall season. Taking place in the heart of Elmore County, the Cotton Festival has everything from shopping to contests. Vendors line the streets with the best handmade goods while young women compete to be named Cotton Queens. Enjoy the live music and don’t miss the car and dog shows, too. This Lake Martin event is a must-visit!
Cheaha is a short drive from Lake Martin, and Chill-O-Ween is worth every mile. At this mountain folk festival, visitors will discover storytelling, folk music, crafts, games, and more. Of course, we would be remiss not to mention the mountain chili competition. What screams fall more than chili?! There is a $5 admission to the park and the activities that day and festivities start at 10:30.
10 days of action-packed fall fun are headed our way, y’all. The Alabama National Fair opens on October 27th and features livestock shows, a scarecrow competition, an iconic Ferris Wheel, and of course, a bevy of games at the midway. This year’s musical guests include the Brothers Osborne and Fantasia. Mark your calendars for nearly two weeks of family-friendly activities.
Horseback rides, lawn games, pumpkin carving, and even a working blacksmith and gristmill are waiting for you at this year’s Russell Crossroads Fall Family Festival. We’re most excited to see all of the goodies that will be entered into the canning and baking contest. We can’t wait to see who wins the blue ribbons this year!
